Fall of the Leaf | Høsten Bladet
J-SIK Movements & Purposely Soulful collaboration
ABOUT THE SHOW
Recounting a detailed memory from growing up in Norway, interpreted through movement, Fall of the Leaf takes to an intimate theatre setting to delve into urban contemporary dance. The show, Høsten Bladet, in Norwegian, expresses the curiosity that buds from reliving a memory of the distant past.
Inspired by the natural behaviours of wind, Artistic Director, Jason Galeos of J-SIK Movements explores how wind encounters objects, creating pockets of swirling force and turbulence.

Notes
The idea came from how many hats we put on in a day, week, months and/or years. Instead of hats though, I chose shoes because we put them on everyday of a particular purpose. We wear many pairs shoes in everyday life. Sometimes we accidentally step on something and make a discovery. Some days we get stepped on and we pause to take a closer look to see what happened. We carry them daily and we fill it with purpose. Look back on the trail we made and identify the footprints left behind. It's more than just about function and fashion.

Synopsis: I thank Christ for without Him, none of this would matter. When I was younger, my mom taught me how to dance. When I was 10, I learned and performed with my sisters (Joh, Jill, Janice). In Junior high I started learning hip hop. By the time I was 16, I danced with a crew known as FS (freestyle session) and when I was 17, Vanessa Padillo invited me to the dance club, and paved the way for opportunities. When I was 19, dancing almost came to an end, but then again every end has a new beginning. At the age of 21, I choreographed my first piece in Dance Montage. The following year, BattLeZone crew was introduced and I went back to school to train/study at the UofC's Contemporary Dance Program. Halfway through post secondary, I met Pamela Tzeng and she encouraged me to explore, travel, and experience the life of an independent emerging artist. At 23, BattLeZone went on a hiatus and at 25, I got a degree in Bachelor of Arts. From the beginning and now, I survived the negativity, confusion, and doubts of me choosing this path. So now at 27, I think even to this day...Attitude Reflects Leadership.

Different suits of armor that keep me from becoming to engaged and too vulnerable. Each strategy built on the same premise: keep at a safe distance and always have an exit strategy. It requires that I stay behind it so as not to draw attention to the imperfections and vulnerabilities.

Choreographer's notes
The concept in this project are described in two ways. First one is you paired up with an artist that you have never worked before and secondly, you are to create, collaborate and think outside your forte.
The concept is inspired by limiting our senses and imagining the thought of being inside a train but in a containR.
BZED Series: Training in Transition
In this specific process was my first time trying something new away from street dance and morphing into exploration. BZed stands for "BattleZone" which is a group I'm part of and "ed" stands for exploration dance.
This piece revolves around five individuals with certain positions. A healer, control, night watch, heavy runner and steath. All these ideas came from a video game I played and was listening to the music. The composer and the mechanics of the game itself inspired me to transform into dance theatre.

This piece is my very first choreographic work done in the 2007 Dance Montage. Presented at the University of Calgary, University Theatre.
In this process, I wanted to explore the possibilities of bringing more men in dance theatre and show unity whether you have a background in Breaking, Popping, Locking, or Choreography, dance brings people together and take away those boundaries.
